Pop-up radio in geodesic dome during the Radio Festival 2014

As part of Radio Festival 2014 the biggest event in Europe for the radio industry, famous BBC broadcasters like Ken Bruce and Anneka Rice, joined hands with independent talents to establish the Challenge Radio – Freedome 30 pop-up station built in front of a MediaCityUK in Salford.
Chris Burns, Chair of Radio Festival 2014, said that: “Challenge Radio will be a celebration of all that is great about radio. I’m so pleased that so much wonderful talent has come together in this collaborative effort, and we look forward to bringing this one-off radio station to listeners across 12 hours. Expect fun, laughter, great music and of course, insights into the happenings at Radio Festival 2014.”
Indeed 12 hour live broadcast in a dome was a fantastic event and even the unfavorable weather could not stop the Challenge Radio from soldiering on. Freedome 30 provided pleasant, warm and dry environment for the presenters while transparent front section allowed anyone interested to observe their work.
Challenge Radio demonstrated that Freedome geodesic domes are great for temporary radio stations and TV studios, not only due to their attractive look, but also due to their rigidity and ability to withstand even the worst weather conditions including violent storms rated by 12th degree on the Beaufort scale.
